Why shouldn't we support Project 92 if it supports ActivityPub?
Interoperability is a shared core value, right?

Project 92 is Threads, I think.
There were some rumors that it would support ActivityPub.
Some instances said they'd defederate in response.

https://techcrunch.com/2023/07/05/adam-mosseri-says-metas-threads-app-wont-have-activitypub-support-at-launch/
“We’re committed to building support for ActivityPub, the protocol behind Mastodon, into this app. We weren’t able to finish it for launch given a number of complications that come along with a decentralized network, but it’s coming,”

Oh yeah, I read Mastodon's FAQ on it, people were really reaching for reasons not to like it, lol.
Is Project 92 an internal name?

I believe so, yep.
It is shocking to me that users who migrated to a federated service would be so against federation.

Defederation is the new centralization.
Mastodon saw a huge influx of users from Twitter who wanted *more* censorship and control.

I'm honesty glad that the fediverse offers people that freedom of choice.

Decentralization takes away that choice though. Cult-like aspects of social pressures are stronger in the digital sphere without geography and family to anchor people. The fediverse needs greater adoption of liberal principals in order to prevent people's freedom of choice from being co-opted by stronger social pressures.

I agree that federated systems that adopt classical liberal principles are the way forward. Like email does.
I also believe we need to allow for and celebrate the ability for people to form their own echo chambers / gated communities.
It is better than people forming their own "private" gated communities on reddit and facebook.
We can help be part of something better and by being part of that better thing people might join us voluntarily.
